Books

Just some of the books I have used in teaching IELTS.  Most are excellent resources for assisting in teaching IELTS.

Cambridge IELTS 1

Introduction to the IELTS exam and its modules.  4 full academic tests and 1 full general training test.  Comprehensive answers section.  I mainly use these for running periodic progress full tests.

Cambridge IELTS 2

Introduction to the IELTS exam and its modules.  4 full academic tests and 1 full general training test.  Comprehensive answers section.  I mainly use these for running periodic progress full tests.

Cambridge IELTS 3

Introduction to the IELTS exam and its modules.  4 full academic tests and 1 full general training test.  Comprehensive answers section.  I mainly use these for running periodic progress full tests.

101 for IELTS

Introduction and advice about the exam and comprehensive exercises.  Practice test material included.  A good introduction to the IELTS exam and practical exercises.

202 for IELTS

Exercises for practising different aspects and questions.  Some very good listening sections especially for numbers letters and pronunciation.  Can easily be used for smaller exercises and additions to a lesson.

Focus on IELTS

This book is much more thematic than previous books.  Many previous books tended to concentrate on delivering a main point but this book is more inclusive and better combines IELTS with language learning.

Insight into IELTS

Great book for showing techniques but further exercises need to be created for further practise.  The speaking section is as with most earlier books a little light.  Still an essential resource though.  Practice tests included.

Passport to IELTS

Great resource for smaller exercises and steps through in a series of topics.  Very useful as a course book or as a resource add on.

Focusing on IELTS

Reading and writing only, but a very valuable resource.  The book steps through these two subjects in a very practical and logical manner.  I have used this book extensively and find students like the material.

Focusing on IELTS
The New Prepare for IELTS

Another great core book for delivering methods and and examples of IELTS material.  Many schools use this as a core resource for an IELTS course.

Prepare for IELTS
The New Prepare for IELTS Practice Tests

This book contains 5 academic practice tests which are split into listening, reading, writing sections so they can be used as complete tests or as class resource material in small sections.  Good book but as usual only a very small speaking section.

Prepare for IELTS Practice
IELTS to Success

A good resource book when mixed with the other resources available.  Can be used a core book or as sectionalised resource material.

IELTS to Success
IELTS Examination

100 exercises for IELTS work which really tests students lexical resources and encourages them to look harder at all aspects of the English language.  Can be used as set exercises in class or as homework exercises.

IELTS Examination
How to Prepare for IELTS

Although this is not my favourite resource some of the material is very useful and I find that many students do not respond well to the exercises in this book.  Possibly this is that the typeface seems rather small at times.

There are many excellent books relating to IELTS and especially new ones in the last couple of years.  If you know a good IELTS resource book that you have used why not tell us about it by email and share your experience.
