Some of the ideas on these pages are from personal resources and others are from other teachers and ESOL websites and are chosen for their relative merit for teaching IELTS.  You are welcome to copy any of these and I do not claim any ownership to them.  I have only listed to date ideas which I have used and which worked well in class.

Word Shout

Divide the students into teams and play a song which has good clarity with the lyrics.  Play the song for gist and get the students to make dictation notes.  Elicit content of song and play again.  Make a list of words from the song to the board, some words should be unique to each team list and other words contained in all the lists.  Play the song again and when the students hear a word on their wordlist shout out anything which the teacher has decided to use, could be something really silly or just a shout.  Replay that part and check with the correct team receiving a point.  Finish by giving out or showing the lyrics and get everyone to sing the song.
