Some of the ideas on these pages are from personal resources and others are from other teachers and ESOL websites and are chosen for their relative merit for teaching IELTS.  You are welcome to copy any of these and I do not claim any ownership to them.  I have only listed to date ideas which I have used and which worked well in class.

Cut up Texts

Students read a prepared text and answer questions for gist.  Students read again and answer questions for detail.  Next students identify paragraph main ideas and supporting ideas.  Then remove the full text and give the students it back but cut up into sentences or paragraphs and ask them to rearrange back to the original text.  Students learn to identify writing style and logical idea development from this exercise.
