Some of the ideas on these pages are from personal resources and others are from other teachers and ESOL websites and are chosen for their relative merit for teaching IELTS.  You are welcome to copy any of these and I do not claim any ownership to them.  I have only listed to date ideas which I have used and which worked well in class.

Scanning and Skimming

Collect any old English texts you can find such as redundant magazines, newspapers, old text books, journals or if necessary get news articles from the Internet.  In advance look through them for content and create a worksheet listing different items to find such as:  famous people, singers, disasters, weather forecast, name of a city, a product or advert, something funny, something sad and other things which are in the reading material.  Place them into a pile and get the students to rummage through the texts and cut out any relevant ideas and stick them onto the worksheet.  See who can complete the exercise first
