Some of the ideas on these pages are from personal resources and others are from other teachers and ESOL websites and are chosen for their relative merit for teaching IELTS.  You are welcome to copy any of these and I do not claim any ownership to them.  I have only listed to date ideas which I have used and which worked well in class.

Topical Texts

Students can become very bored with standard texts from resources.  Look for special occasions such as festivals, birthdays, public holidays etc and get texts from the Internet which relate to the occasion.  Especially things which are more personal for students relating to Valentines Day, Christmas, Spring or Easter festivals, food, clothes, fashion, money.  Involve the students in pair discussion first before an open forum with ideas placed to the board before presenting the text to personalise it and then ensure a related activity after the reading exercises.
