Some of the ideas on these pages are from personal resources and others are from other teachers and ESOL websites and are chosen for their relative merit for teaching IELTS.  You are welcome to copy any of these and I do not claim any ownership to them.  I have only listed to date ideas which I have used and which worked well in class.

Pitch and Toss

Ensure each student has a coin and using a small amount of clear tape, attach a small piece of paper with the student’s initials for recognition purposes.  Before each turn students collectively decide the forfeit for the loser, which could be a speaking, singing or even dancing task.  Then each student stands at a set point away from a wall maybe 5 to 10 metres and in turn flicks the coin off the back of their thumbnail towards the wall.  They must try and get their coin as close as possible to the wall.  The coin furthest away from the wall is the loser and that student then performs the allotted forfeit.
