Some of the ideas on these pages are from personal resources and others are from other teachers and ESOL websites and are chosen for their relative merit for teaching IELTS.  You are welcome to copy any of these and I do not claim any ownership to them.  I have only listed to date ideas which I have used and which worked well in class.

Have you Ever?

The teacher should either tell a story about themselves which is true but sounds incredible or make a credible false story.  The students should discuss this in groups and state whether the story is true or false.  The initial story could be “Have you ever met someone famous?” and “Have you ever been in trouble with the police?”  Students should then make notes about their own story which can be true or false.  Teacher should assist with note development and ideas.  Next students write their story and when finished pass their story around to the other students to read and underline grammar and spelling mistakes.  All students should make a note of each story and note down whether they think the story is true or false.  Students then vote on each story whether it is true or false and vote for the best story.  Students should now rewrite their story and correct and grammar or spelling errors.  The best stories can be placed on a wall.
